Several parts of Hyderabad and Telangana saw heavy rains that resulted in many people getting stranded on Wednesday evening.
The Times of India reported:
Three persons, including a woman, were reportedly washed away in streams in separate incidents in Ranga Reddy district on Wednesday night...several streams in the district were in spate. People were trapped in swirling waters at least three locations due to overflowing streams at the time of going to press. In the first incident, two persons travelling in an Indica car were washed away in a swollen stream near Mominpet of Ranga Reddy district on Wednesday night.
The report also adds that Hyderabad's Uppal area received 7 cm rain with 4 cm in just one hour.
Deccan Chronicle reported:
Many commuters were caught in the downpour that was accompanied by lightning at Secundera-bad, NTR Marg, Tank Bund, Kushaiguda, Charlapally, Charminar, Ameerpet, Kukatpally, LB Nagar and Kothapet.Officials said the city could receive more rain on Thursday.
Many have complained of potholes and ditches on the city roads.
However, contractors of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are reportedly involved in a blame game.
"It's the GHMC which fails to provide us with the right kind of material as prescribed by the central government. Even if it is to be considered that the contractors are doing a shoddy job, what is the civic body's quality control cell doing about it," R Hanumanth Sagar, general secretary, Contractors Association of GHMC, told TOI.
"The contractors who win the tenders to lay the roads use poor quality material. The longevity of the road depends on the material that they are using. In some cases we have noticed that the contractors use substandard bitumen mix, which lessens the life of the road," the newspaper quotes a top official on condition of anonymity as saying.
Many roads remained inundated on Thursday morning.
