A police officer from the Mailardevpally police station was booked on Wednesday, for allegedly raping a woman in Hyderabad.
The police said that head constable G Paul was deputed to look into a case, where a woman filed the complaint, after facing alleged domestic abuse at home.
“She was facing domestic abuse and had lodged a complaint against her husband. We counselled the couple but the man said that she keeps going to many places without informing him. Later, a missing case was registered by the husband against his wife about a month ago. It was then the head constable and the woman met. She says he came to her house and raped her,” a police officer told Deccan Chronicle.
According to reports, the Mailardevpally police registered a complaint and registered a case under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against constable G Paul.
Speaking to the media, Cyberabad Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya said that no arrest had been made so far, and an inquiry had been initiated.
In March this year, a policeman in Hyderabad was arrested and charged with rape, after he allegedly had a sexual relationship with a minor.
Mahboob Ahmed (48) was arrested by the Kamatipura police, after a complaint was registered against him.
Shockingly, the relationship went on with consent from the minor’s family, as they said that Ahmed had promised to marry their daughter.
"We have booked a case under prevention of sexual crimes against children, POSCO, and also rape and abduction. All are equal before the law. Being a policeman, he violated service rules and maintained an illicit relationship. So, we have arrested him,” DCP Satyanarayana told NDTV at the time.
