Even as many low lying areas in Hyderabad were inundated on Friday, after incessant rains battered the city for the third day, the Met department has reportedly warned that a second low-pressure area was forming in the Bay of Bengal.
This would mean that Hyderabad would continue to witness rainfall for another five days.
"Its far from over. We have issued a five-day alert now and the intensity of the rains could be the same," Times of India quotes Dr Y K Reddy, director (in-charge), Indian Meteorological Department (Hyderabad) as saying.
Speaking to TOI, Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist, Skymet added “Incidentally there is a fresh system, running from northwest India up to the centre of the well-marked low pressure area across Vidarbha and Telangana,"
Other parts of Telangana also witnessed heavy rains.
Writing for TOI, Shiva Kumar Pinna reported:
15 residential colonies got inundated with flood water in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation limits following a heavy downpour since Thursday night. Warangal district received a total of 426.2 mm rainfall with Hanamkonda registering 160.4 mm...About 6,000 residents were shifted to rehabilitation centres in Warangal.
Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, the GHMC has deputed a workforce across the city to do temporary patchwork on the roads until the rain stops, to prevent accidents.
State minister K T Rama Rao also took to Twitter to inform people that the authorities were also working to prevent the spread of communicable diseases in the aftermath of the rains.
