Sanjana, the 5-year-old girl who was battling for her life after she and her mother were hit by a car allegedly driven by a drunken software engineer in Hyderabad, has gained consciousness.
The girl, who was in a coma, also recognized her father Shivanand and uncle Anand on Tuesday.
Speaking to TNM, R Anand, Sanjana’s uncle said, "Yesterday she responded when we called her name. This is our festival gift from god. On this auspicious day, we have hope that she will be fine.”
However, it was reported that she is still critical. "We can ascertain her condition after 48 hours," doctors said.
At around 10 pm on October 2, Sanjana and her mother Sridevi were hit by the speeding car when they were crossing the road from the bus stop at Pedda Amberpet near Hayathnagar.
Sanjana, who was hit on the head was immediately rushed to the hospital along with her mother and was put on ventilator support while her mother was admitted to the ICU.
Sanjana’s older sister, Pravallika, who was also with them at the time, escaped injury.
The accused, software engineer B Venkata Ramana, and two of his friends travelling with him, Y Yadi Reddy and T Srinivasulu were granted bail within two days of the incident.
