Ruchika, a national-level gold medalist, approached the police and filed a complaint.
The husband and in-laws of national-level roller skating player Ruchika Jain were booked by the Begumpet women police station on Friday, after she alleged that she was being physically and mentally harassed.  Ruchika, a national-level gold medalist, approached the police and filed a complaint stating that she and her husband, Akshay, married in December last year. “Akshay started avoiding me right after marriage. I found out that he was having an affair with a girl. One Nikita used to send him messages,’’ the complaint reportedly stated.  After reading his WhatsApp messages, when Ruchika informed her in-laws of the same, she alleged that she was further harassed by them.  “My husband and in-laws have subjected me to a lot of mental, physical, emotional and psychological cruelty for the extra-marital affair of my husband. The family also threatened me,” Ms Jain alleged in her complaint.  Based on the complaint, the police booked Askhay and his parents under Sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is ongoing, the police said. In October last year, SHE teams of the Hyderabad police said that they had registered 3,516 cases of harassment against women in the state, since its inception three years ago on October 26, 2014.  In Hyderabad, there are over 100 SHE teams, who receive complaints over WhatsApp, through letters and via the police app-Hawk eye. Discreetly placed cameras capture the harassment and help detain the accused. Due to this solid evidence of recordings, most of the accused are convicted. Each SHE team comprises five undercover women police personnel, who have been provided with discreet cameras to record acts of harassment.  Read: AP women players accuse Kabaddi Association general secretary of sexual harassment
