Telangana 2018
Chandramukhi, a well-known trans activist, who is contesting the Telangana polls from Goshamahal, reportedly went missing from her residence on Tuesday morning.
Giving an ultimatum of 24 hours, the Bahujan Left Front (BLF) has warned of a state-wide agitation if their candidate, Chandramukhi Muvvala, who is contesting the Telangana elections from Goshamahal constituency, was not found by the Jubilee Hills police by Thursday. Speaking to TNM, BLF convenor Tammineni Veerabhadram said, “It has been one whole day that Chandramukhi has been missing and police are saying that they are carrying out the investigation, but there has been no progress.” “In Goshamahal, all the candidates contesting against her have a criminal past and we suspect that someone might be behind her abduction. Despite such a big incident, all the parties have maintained a studious silence, as if nothing has happened. So, we are planning for a state-wide agitation on Thursday, if police don’t find Chandramukhi,” he added. Chandramukhi is taking on the bigwigs like Raja Singh of the BJP, Mukesh Goud of Congress and Prem Singh Rathode of TRS. Academician and political scientist Kancha Ilaiah has stated that it is the duty of the police to give updates on the investigation every three hours, which they are failing to do. “A transwoman, who is fighting strong candidates known for their criminal history, is missing. This is a national issue and the response to it by the police is very poor,” he lamented. He further slammed the TRS party, which has been in power for the last four years. “There has been a witch-hunt against the politicians by police. Police are raiding Revanth Reddy, Jagga Reddy, Vanteru Pratap and all other opposition leaders. Though the government has been dissolved, the CM is overseeing the law and order, which is really unfortunate. Conducting witch-hunts on the opposition leaders is undemocratic and condemnable,” he added, saying that he will be writing to Congress president Rahul Gandhi about the state of affairs in Telangana. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Chandramukhi’s mother Anitha Muvvala, represented by lawyer Vasudha Nagraj, filed a habeas corpus writ petition in the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday. Admitting the petition, the High Court asked the Jubilee Hills police to produce Chandramukhi before them by 10.15 am on Thursday. “The division bench of judges Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Satyanarayana Murthy ordered the Home department to produce her before them by 10.15 am,” Vasudha told TNM. Chandramukhi, a well-known trans activist, reportedly went missing from her residence in Banjara Hills at around 8 am on Tuesday.  Her friends have alleged that she could have been abducted in a white SUV, which was allegedly lurking in the area during the same time. Based on the complaint, the Jubilee Hills police have registered an FIR.   Click here to follow TNM's coverage of the Telangana Assembly Elections 2018.
