Five others were injured in the crash, including the ambulance driver.
Two sisters who were travelling with the body of a family member in an ambulance were killed on Sunday after a speeding truck rammed into their vehicle on a highway in Telangana.
The incident happened on the Rajiv Rahadari national highway around 3 am at the T-junction near Bakrichapial village, a few kilometres ahead of Siddipet town.
The police said that Ravi Kumar, a native of Husnabad, who was staying in a rented house at Alwal in Secunderabad with his family suffered a heart stroke and passed away on Saturday. "His family arranged for an ambulance to take his body and go to Husnabad. As they were travelling near a T-junction on the highway, a speeding DCM truck hit the ambulance from behind. Both vehicles were severely damaged and two sisters died on the spot while five others received injuries on their head and feet," the police said.
The deceased were identified as 35-year-old K Sunitha and 41-year-old M Rani.
The injured, which included the ambulance driver, were rushed to the Government General Hospital in Siddipet. As the condition of at least two of the accident victims is serious, they were referred to the state-run Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.
The police suspect that the ambulance slowed down as authorities had placed speed stopper cones on the highway, but the speeding truck failed to control the vehicle in time.
A case has been registered by the Siddipet Rural police against the truck driver under Sections 304(A) (Causing death by negligence) and 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC. The police said that further investigation was ongoing.
Meanwhile, another accident which took place in Telangana's Nalgonda district also resulted in the death of two people.
The accident took place when a lorry, which was carrying a load of plant for a nursery in Hyderabad, turned turtle on National Highway No 65 near Cheekatigudem village. The deceased were identified as 60-year-old Ramulu and 31-year-old K Nageshwar, who were sitting at the back.
