A 15-year-old girl in Telangana was raped and impregnated, allegedly by the husband of a staff member at the school where she was studying. The incident took place at the state-run girls residential school, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Mahabubabad district. The accused was identified as a 30-year-old man, who is the husband of one of the medical staff at the institute. He has been taken into custody.
The incident came to light after one of the teachers noticed changes in the physical features of the survivor. As the teachers and principal of the school enquired with the student, she initially resisted and later informed them about the husband of a medical staff member allegedly raping her over several months.
Based on a complaint from the school management, the Gudur police have registered a case against M Sagar, husband of an Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) in the same school.
Speaking to TNM, Gudur Inspector of Police B Balaji said, "The victim used to speak to the nurse frequently, and also visited the nurse’s house, which is close to the school. The accused got acquainted with the girl last year, and raped her over the last few months.” The girl’s parents have been informed about the incident, he added.
The police have registered a case under section 5 of the POCSO Act read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Section 6 prescribes the punishment for penetrative sexual assault on a child, which is a minimum of 10 years and may extend upto life imprisonment. DySP Mahabubabad is the investigation officer in the case.
The Inspector further added, "We have sent the survivor to hospital for further medical tests as per the investigation process. Soon, we will be giving the custody of the child to the District Child Welfare officials."
Meanwhile, District Educational Officer has reportedly suspended the school principal as well as the accused’s wife, holding them responsible for the incident.
Speaking to TNM, District Welfare Officer Nagamallishwari said that the survivor will be taken care of soon after the medical examination.
Child Development and Protection Officer (CDPO) Kamalakar said that medical care and counselling will be followed as per the instructions of the Child Welfare Committee.
