An inquiry has been initiated with an IG rank officer.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Saturday sought an explanation from Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Mahender Reddy, over the police allegedly manhandling Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay on Friday evening.
There was a heated argument between BJP MP Bandi Sanjay and police officials on Friday during a protest supporting the ongoing strike of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees. More than 48,000 TSRTC employees are on strike since October 5 to press for their demands including a merger of the corporation with the government.
Visuals of the incident show Sanjay being pushed around in a scuffle, even as a police officer is seen seemingly is holding on to his shirt.
Democracy in our state is getting dwindle daybyday &replicating the another WestBengal. The way state govt behaving on TSRTC Strike is simulating tyrannical behavior of CMKCR.The way TSPolice behaved while we're taking the march in the last rites of RTCEmployee Babu was abominable pic.twitter.com/vUnjCK4AiE— Bandi Sanjay Kumar (@bandisanjay_bjp) November 1, 2019
Kishan Reddy told reporters that the explanation by the DGP will be handed over to the Centre, for further action.
Was apprised of the unfortunate incident of manhandling of Sri @bandisanjay_bjp, Hon MP - Karimnagar, upon landing. Called him right after for 1st hand information.
Spoke to @TelanganaDGP & asked for a detailed report into this incident to be submitted to the GoI at the earliest.— G Kishan Reddy (@kishanreddybjp) November 1, 2019
Meanwhile, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana, who is also in-charge of Karimnagar denied the allegations of manhandling.
The senior police official said that the MP and his supporters had broken a security cordon that was set up, though permission was denied to them to carry out the funeral procession of an RTC driver.
He said that several supporters of the MP had obstructed the police officers from doing their duty. An inquiry has been initiated with an IG rank officer.
Bandi Sanjay, on the other hand, said that he would move a privilege motion in the upcoming Parliament session, against the 'vicious acts' of the Telangana police.
Iam requesting @narendramodi Ji @AmitShah Ji @JPNadda Ji @kishanreddybjp Ji to look into this grave issue of the TSRTC Strike & the abhorrent acts of TSPolice. In this regard,Iam going to raise a Privilege Motion against the vicious acts of TSPolice in upcoming Parliament session pic.twitter.com/PXxIPJnBsS— Bandi Sanjay Kumar (@bandisanjay_bjp) November 1, 2019
Meanwhile, unfazed by the ongoing strike, the state government on Saturday announced the privatisation of 50 per cent of RTC routes. The major decision was taken at the state Cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
