The Telangana Congress has come down heavily on the KCR-led TRS government over the ongoing fallout of privatisation of routes of State Road Transport Corporation (RTC). The Congress said that CM going ahead with the privatisation despite the matter pending in the High Court is "unconstitutional".
The state of Telangana is witnessing simmering tension as many as nearly 48000 staff of RTC are on indefinite strike over the past one month.
Congress party national spokesperson Dr Dasoju Sravan Kumar in a statement said that it is "illegal and unconstitutional" to approve 50% privatisation.
KCR announced the handing over of 5,100 routes to private parties following a cabinet meeting on Saturday, while setting a deadline of November 5 for the protesting staff to join back.
Dr Dasoju said, "The cabinet should have discussed about the serious remarks made by the High Court against the state government and the officials who furnished incorrect information. It is highly regrettable that KCR cabinet did not show any respect towards the High Court which is hearing the matter."
Earlier last week, the Telangana High Court pulled up government officials and the RTC managing director for "flaws" in the information that was given to the High Court.
Dasoju further lamented, “Instead of misleading the people through press conferences, KCR must first convince the court that the RTC strike was illegal and all the demands raised by employees were not justified. He must clarify to the High Court that the statistics furnished by the officials were not incorrect. He must keep all decisions in abeyance until the matter is disposed of in the High Court."
Taking exception to KCR’s statements on RTC employees’ strike over the suicides of employees, Dasoju said, "It is ridiculous on the part of KCR to blame unions and opposition parties for the suicide and deaths of RTC employees in the last one month. It was KCR's illegal announcement that nearly 48,000 RTC workers were 'self dismissed' that instilled fear and insecurity among employees with a few of them resorting to suicide and others dying of heart attack.”
Meanwhile, the TSRTC employee unions are continuing to take part in the agitation. On the other hand, state police authorities have stated that they would provide complete security to employees who want to join back duty, while clarifying that action would be taken against people who obstruct them.
