TDP MLA Alimineti Uma Madhava Reddy has brushed aside allegations of her association with outlaw Nayeemuddin who was killed in an encounter.
Nayeemuddin, a notorious Maoist renegade-turned-gangster, wanted in a string of cases including the murder of an IPS officer in 1993, was killed in a chance exchange of fire outside Shadnagar town in Mahabubnagar district of state on Monday.Since, his death there have been several theories in the media about the timing of his killing. Different media reports claim that he was close to politicians and high ranked police officials who were privy to his whereabouts for a long time. Some reports claim Nayeemuddin was only killed once he after he tried to extort money from a highly connected industrialist which allegedly irked the TRS top brass.
Uma alleged political conspiracy on part of the ruling TRS government of spreading ‘baseless’ allegations against her.
Demanding a judicial enquiry into the encounter, Uma said, “I demand a judicial inquiry into Nayeem’s encounter. If I am found guilty, I am ready to go to jail,” in a press conference on Thursday.
A SIT has been set up by the state police soon after the encounter to investigate the various criminal activities that Nayeemuddin was part of and trace his associates, DGP Anurag Sharma said.
“The government is deliberately targeting my family. I had security when I was an MLA. The police can inquire the then gunmen whether I had sheltered Nayeemuddin and provided medical treatment to him,” added Uma.
Uma’s son Sandeep in turn alleged that leaders of the TRS were reportedly close to Nayeemuddin.
Incidentally, Uma had entered politics only after her husband A Madhava Reddy (a four time MLA and minister) was killed in a landmine blast by People’s War of which Nayeemuddin was a part of, in 2000.
